The challenge facing the IFA to hold the existing CAP budget was laid out by European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources Günther Oettinger this week in Dublin. The commissioner is on tour around member states to hear views on proposed cuts in the next CAP. The fact that he is due to bring forward proposals by 2 May brings the timeframe into focus. At the very least, agriculture holding what it has must be priority.
