Last weekend’s Zangersheide Quality Auction will go down in history as a world record-breaking edition as it produced the highest recorded price for a foal.
Saturday night at Domain Zangersheide in Lanaken really was a night to remember during the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses.
Colt foal, Especial For Fun Z (out of Luciana Diniz’s 1.70m jumping mare Fit for Fun) topped the sale when making €160,000, followed by Cartina JL Z (by Carthago Z x Nabab de Reve, bred out of Jos Lansink’s mare Valentina van‘t Heike) – the highest priced filly at €135,000.
A total of 38 foals went under the hammer and achieved an average price of €43,895.
Irish bidders were right amongst the action, as the hammer fell in favour of KPCM Sport Horses Ltd who purchased Amaro 2000 Z for €66,000. This bay colt, a brother to Christian Ahlmann’s Dominator 2000 Z, will travel to his new home in Ireland, bringing with him the bloodlines of the desirable sire Aganix du Seigneur Z and Cassini I.
Fillies overall sold very well, with an average price of €52,571. The colts realised an average price of €38,833.
Combined over two evenings, the sale’s third highest priced lot was History JT Z who went for €86,000 to South African clients on Friday night.
The colt is sired by Heartbreaker, out of a Carthago Z mare and is the full-brother to the stallion, Hardrock Z who competed at the 2016 Olympics.
Bolesworth
Elsewhere, Irish breeding proved unbeatable at the second instalment of the prestigious Bolesworth Elite Foal Sale in England.
Irish-bred colt Carrickview Cobolesse topped the famous sale at £17,000. The bay colt out of Doblesse-O, the uterine sister to Rodrigo Pessoa’s Winsom O, shone in the ring and the price flew up within seconds. The elegant-moving foal by large-contoured stallion Conthargos was bred by Dr John Haughey MRCVS and Sam Sinclair of Carrickview Stud in Armagh.
Dr Haughey said of the result: “We are really pleased with the sale of our colt.
“It is incredibly encouraging to see fair prices for foals in the UK elite auctions and bodes well for the future.”
