The Irish Limousin Cattle Society held its final sale of the year in Athenry, Co Galway on Saturday 10 December.

The sale which saw 26 entries brought forward for sale from the 31 catalogued sold for an average price of €3,364 on the day with a clearance rate of 54%.

Judging the pre-sale show was Sean Maher from Co Kilkenny who selected Keltic Shadow from the herd of Teleri Thomas, Longwood, Co Meath as the champion.

This May 2021-born bull is sired by Keltic Handsome and is bred from a Homebyres Visitor dam.

Shadow sold as the highest price bull on the day at €4,600. The herd’s second entry, Keltic Sion sired by Loyal out of a Tomschoice Ironstone dam and born in April 2021, sold for €4,000.

The reserve champion of the day went to Ballinascraw Superstar exhibited by John and Stephen Lynch, Ballinalee, Co Longford with their April 2021-born bull sired by Gorrycam Notorious who is bred from a Ballinascraw Ironman dam. Superstar sold for €3,600.

The second highest price of the day was paid for Currane Smokey, an April 2021-born bull sired by Mereside Godolphin out of an Ampertaine Elgin dam. The second prizewinner from the herd of Michael McKeown, Castlebar, Co Mayo, sold for €4,100.

There were three bulls who met their reserves at €4,000 on the day, with the first of this trio coming from the herd of Thomas Finnerty, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, with Bovinion Slick.

Slick is an April 2021-born bull sired by Edenvale Ivor out of a Wilodge Formulaone dam.

Keltic Shadow for Teleri Thomas, who was the champion and highest-priced bull on the day selling for €2,600.

The second of this trio was the aforementioned Keltic Sion with the final bull in this group securing €4,000 coming from the herd of John and Stephen Lynch, Ballinalee, Co Longford.

Their second entry, Ballinscraw Simba, is a May 2021-born bull and is sired by Lodge Hamlet out of a Haltcliffe Dancer dam.

Selling for €3,400 was Keltic Sior, the third entry from Teleri Thomas this time with a May 2021-born bull sired by Loyal and bred from the Wilodge Cerberus cow.

Also finding his new home on the day was Maghera Saint, a February 2021-born bull bred from a Castleview Gazelle cow. The Moondharrig Knell son who was a second prizewinner on the day went on to sell for €3,000.
