The change will result in 15 rural communities losing their direct bus to Dublin.
The move means that the number of services each day will be almost halved, from 198 down to 105.
The company plans to pull out of two routes. Route 5 operates between Dublin and Waterford via Wicklow and Wexford and Route 7 runs between Dublin and Cork via Kilkenny and Clonmel.
On Route 5, the number of services will drop from 75 to approximately 42, which will result in Clonroche, Bunclody and Kildavin having no direct service to Dublin.
On Route 7, the number of services will drop from 68 to around 42, and seven areas, Ballyporeen, Clogheen, Ardfinnan, Muine Bheag, Castlecomer, Crettyyard and Ballylinan Cross would thus lose their bus to the capital.
Another route which could be axed down the line is the Number 21, running from Athlone to Westport. This change would result in Kiltoom, Knockcroghery, Ballymurray, Roscommon and Castlerea losing their connection to Westport. This change could have a knock-on effect on Ireland West Airport at Knock.
IFA Deputy President and Countryside spokesman Tim O’Leary called on Rural Affairs Minister, Ann Phelan to intervene and ensure the plans will not impact negatively on the affected rural communities.
“Minister Ann Phelan’s commitment to ‘rural-proof’ all actions by State bodies and government departments is vital to ensure that critical services such as transport are maintained in rural Ireland," he said.
