Tuam boys do it again

Leo Moran and Padraig Stevens have had long associations with The Saw Doctors, the band that put the heart and soul of Tuam, Galway and Mayo on the map in a special way.

News from the Old Country is the title of a new album from Padraig Stevens with plenty of assistance from his great friend Leo and it will be launched in Campbell’s Tavern in Cloughanover, Headford, on Friday night, 22 June.

The first song from the album, A Prayer to St Anthony, was released last week. The song celebrates the great Irish belief that lost or mislaid items can be found rapidly by saying a quick prayer to St Anthony of Padua.

Big Tom tribute from Pat

Pat Costello has released a tribute to country legend, Big Tom.

The verses for Gentle Tom, sung to the air of Gentle Mother, were written by Pat, and were recorded at Peter Maher’s Studios in Tipperary.

Pat is big on the dancing circuit and is now doing shows in many parts of the country. His latest release has been picking up substantial airplay county-wide in recent days.

Breda retires from Tipperary Mid West radio

Breda Ryan has retired after 21 years working with Tipperary Mid West Radio. She presented the popular Breakfast Show from 8am to 10am for many years and established a large and loyal following for the programme.

Breda, who is an aunt of country singer, Jimmy Buckley, had a fine knowledge of the music scene and the people of the area served by the radio station.

Ardent listener Martin Delaney says Brenda will be greatly missed on Tipp Mid West Radio. “She was a great presenter and was always so pleasant on the radio.”

The Mighty Man from Mayo

Seamus Moore has released a new single ahead of his regular Irish tour in August The Kilkenny man, who has resided in London for many years, has chosen the long-titled I’m a Mild Mannered Middle Aged Mighty Man from Mayo as his current single.

The song was written by Kieran Henry from Tooreen in Co Mayo and it is picking up plenty of airplay in the western counties.

Frank Nelson heads from Donegal

Frank Nelson is celebrating 30 years as a recording artist and the Roscommon man will host a celebration weekend in The Abbey Hotel in Roscommon from 28-30 September.

Over the years Frank has recorded 10 albums and a box set of three was released in the last two years. Frank has remained steadfast and true to traditional country music all down the years. Along with Michael Howard, he still performs regular shows around the country as well as some over in England.

Summer Showtime in Enniskillen
