Despite the fact that horse sport was granted parity with horse racing at the end of last year, meaning elite sport can take place behind closed doors during Level 5 restrictions, it has been a quiet start to the year for the horse sport industry.

Events in Level 5 are strictly to cater for professional sport horse athletes, producers, high performance and/or sport horse athletes and individuals who participate within professional competitions. Competitors must be over 18 years of age to participate in horse events.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has categorically stated that there is to be no youth activity during Level 5 restrictions. This will be reviewed on 5 March by DAFM.

However, dates and venues have been announced for the previously postponed TRM Showjumpers Club Spring Tour, with action kicking off this Sunday at Broadmeadow Equestrian Centre.

All shows will be operating in compliance with COVID-19 protocols and face coverings must be worn by all in attendance.

While all events will be behind closed doors, where possible the shows will be live streamed to allow owners and breeders to follow the tour.

Showjumping Ireland have also extended 2020 membership until 31 March 2021.
