The latest figures from the Farm Tractor and Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA) show a 4% drop last year in the number of new tractor registrations to 1,796.

The dairy heartland of Cork was listed as having the highest number of new tractor registrations in the country.

Despite a worryingly slow start to tractor sales in 2017, the end of the year saw an impressive 172 tractors registered in the last quarter, which is the highest number of registrations in that quarter for a number of years.

Just over 84% of all tractors registered had more than 100hp and a little over 50% had more than 120hp.

The five counties with the highest number of new tractor registrations are listed below –

  • 1. Cork – 206 registrations
  • 2. Tipperary - 151.
  • 3. Wexford – 115.
  • 4. Galway – 110.
  • 5. Kilkenny – 90.
