Bassam

15 October: Written and directed by Idan Meir, a former Israeli soldier, and performed by Fadl Mustapha, Bassam is about one man’s journey from violence to non-violence and explores the broader moral themes of forgiveness and hope. The Dirty Dancing Show

Lucinda Sly

October 16: In March 1835, 10,000 people crammed the streets of Carlow to see the public hanging of Lucinda Sly and John Dempsey. Lucinda Sky portrays the conviction of Sly and Dempsey for the murder of Lucinda’s husband, Walter. John MacKenna’s new play, staged at the Friars’ Gate Theatre, Kilmallock, Co Limerick, is a tale of love, lust, land and murder – a passionate and powerful play for over-16s only. Tickets €12. Kilkenny Free Day

10 October: Buildings, tours and attractions across Kilkenny county and city will be free to the public this Saturday. Nearly 50 businesses are taking part in the initiative, from Kilkenny Castle to Castlecomer Discovery Park. Places may be limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Conamara Sea Week

16-26 October: Conamara Sea Week is a multi-disciplinary festival, celebrating the wonderful marine heritage of Conamara in Letterfrack, Co Galway. The festival celebrated its 30th birthday in 2014 and has grown to be a wonderful and unique festival with something to interest and entertain all age groups. Highlights include music workshops, art exhibitions, concerts, talks, walks, children’s activities, sporting events, lots of great music and buckets of fun for all the family. Harvest Tour

17 October : Ireland’s longest established string quartet, the Vanbrugh Quartet, is internationally recognised for its beauty of sound, clarity of texture and integrity of interpretation within an unusually wide range of repertoire. The Harvest Tour is heading to the Siamsa Tire Theatre and Arts Centre in Tralee, Co Kerry for one night only this October and it’s an event not to be missed. 18 October: Paul, Dave & Dom have been busy in the studio recording their seventh album. This will be the follow up to 2013’s much acclaimed ‘Chop Chop’ – their third number one, and their fourth consecutive album to be nominated for a Choice prize.
