Dolores & Sean Keane
6 January: The two most distinctive voices of the Irish folk scene are coming together in concert in the INEC Killarney. Dolores and Sean Keane are known all over the world for their traditional voices. Hear them sing classics like Isle Of Hope and Galway Bay. The siblings toured together with Reel Union in the 1980s and then went on to carve solo careers of their own. Remembering Lizzy
8 January: Remembering Lizzy had their first gig in 1991 in Galway to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the untimely passing of Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott. Every year since, they get together to play the music of Thin Lizzy in homage to what was Ireland’s greatest rock star. Sean Nós Dance Night
8 January: CCÉ Ennis Branch of will hold a sean-nós dance night in Cois na hAbhna (Comhaltas Regional Resource Centre) on Friday, 8 January, at 8.30pm. David Bowie Festival
9-10 January: There aren’t many 68 year olds who have rocked as many looks and garnered as many glowing reviews from music magazines as David Bowie. Still creating music, having recently released the incredible Blackstar, Bowie has spawned a thousand imitations, and this January some of his most sincere fans will be dressing up as the Thin White Duke, or Ziggy Stardust, at the Dublin Bowie Festival as they emulate their icon through costume and song. 1-15 January: Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne takes on his next great acting challenge, playing Lili Elbe, one of the first known people to undergo gender reassignment surgery. Born Einar Wegener, she gradually realised that she was a woman trapped in a man’s body. In the 1920s, such a thing was unheard of. The surgery had never been attempted before. But it was Lili’s only chance to be the person she was supposed to be. In cinemas nationwide.
