I see farmers in the Netherlands have a new website that aims to link up older farmers without a successor with younger farmers who have no farm of their own. The site is aptly named Boer Zoekt Boer, which translates as Farmer Seeks Farmer.

The scheme has been described as “Tinder for farmers” and aims to put those close to retirement in contact with young would-be farmers seeking their own patch of land.

The idea is to find the perfect match between landowner and would-be farmer. This may give the older farmer the peace of mind to pass on his or her holding, whether that’s through a sale, lease or partnership arrangement.

The Dutch central statistics office says 60% of those aged over 55 have no heir to their throne, so to speak.
