The Pier house – a 68-acre coastal, residential farm with outbuildings and access to commonage situated right on the Wild Atlantic Way; a fine 12-acre farm at Cruary west and a concise 15-acre property at Derryvreen, are all on the market as we enter the back end of 2018. With varying guides, they are all manageable packages sparking enquiries from locals.

The Pier House

The first of the three farms is Pier House, a 68-acre residential farm. Situated on the Mizen peninsula, this holding is in a spectacular location, looking out at the mouth of Dunmanus Bay.

With the exception of the commonage, the lands offer good grazing potential. While some bits need more work than others, it is farmable. There is also the benefit of good road frontage.

The residence is a two-storey, detached farmhouse with an extension to the rear. The dwelling is located within 40m of Dunmanus Pier and a sheltered harbour.

The outbuildings are made up of a selection of old stone buildings with slated roofs, and at first glance would pass off as a dwelling. Indeed, the stone-constructed buildings offer great future potential, subject to planning permission. There is also a hay shed with lean-tos on either side. The five-bedroom property is serviced with electricity, a private water supply and private drainage. The house has oil-fired central heating.

The lots

This property is for sale as a whole or can be sold in five separate lots.

  • Lot one: 22.7 acres of commonage with rocky outcrops, but suitable for rough grazing.
  • Lot two: 10 acres of mainly flat ground, consisting of two fields which can be used for silage.
  • Lot three: A small field of less than an acre situated adjacent to the dwelling house.
  • Lot: four: 26.4 acres making up the main block of grazing land. This is located behind the house.
  • Lot five: Four acres consisting of the dwelling and a field on the pier side of the road.
  • There is a guide price of €500,000, or €7,350/ac, on this property.

    Two manageable parcels

Also available from Hodnett forces in Clonakilty are two non-residential lots in the Clonakilty area that would particularly appeal to farmers.

The first is situated east of the town at Cruary West and consists of 12 acres. Split into two fields, this top-quality holding is currently in grass and tillage. The lands are securely fenced and benefit from having good road frontage on the western boundary.

Of a southerly aspect, the holding enjoys distant sea views and is suitable to any farming enterprise. The guide price is €12,000/ac to €15,000/acre.

The second holding is at Derryvreen, within 6km of Clonakilty and 4km from Rossmore village. This holding is laid out in one natural division and has road frontage on its southern boundary. A low-lying, sheltered farm, currently in pasture, it contains a central farm roadway. It is laid out in a number of large paddocks, with the Argideen River forming its northern boundary. There is a guide price of between €9,000/ac and 10,000/ac on this farm.

    Offering

The three sales are being conducted via private treaty and are being offered by Clonakilty-based auctioneer John Hodnett of Hodnett Forde.
