FBD Insurance has teamed up with Macra na Feirme as the rural youth organisation celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. There will be a series of events marking the occasion throughout the year beginning with the FBD Capers national finals in the WIT Arena in Waterford this Saturday, 2 February, from 8pm.

Fiona Muldoon, CEO of FBD Insurance, said: “As Macra celebrates its 75th anniversary, it is important to recognise the immense contribution it has made over this period to Ireland’s agricultural sector and to rural life generally.

"At FBD Insurance, as a community insurer, we acknowledge the vital role Macra plays contributing to life and vibrancy in communities.

"The relationships built while competing (sometimes fiercely) in events such as the FBD Macra Capers, can last a lifetime.

FBD Insurance PLC is delighted to support Macra na Feirme in the great job it does both at a national and local level

“In these uncertain times, FBD Insurance understands the importance of supporting the Irish agri-sector to develop and future-proof our farming industry and Ireland’s rural communities.

“Brexit is undoubtedly causing worry right now but as Ireland’s only indigenous insurance company, FBD will endeavour to continue to support local communities, businesses and the agri-sector.

“I want to say special congratulations to Macra na Feirme as it celebrates 75 years.

"FBD Insurance PLC is delighted to support Macra na Feirme in the great job it does both at a national and local level. On behalf of everyone at FBD, we wish you continued success for the next 75 years,” Muldoon said.

Macra na Feirme national president James Healy said: “75 years is a long time by anyone’s measure and this year will be a celebration of everything that has gone before, showcasing the best of our members’ talents but also looking forward, to bring Macra na Feirme to greater heights. I’d also like to thank FBD for helping us to mark this historic occasion.

“The FBD Capers competition is one which not only develops our members’ ability to sing and dance, but more importantly it shows them the value of hard work, dedication, the ability to work as part of a team and gives them the self-confidence to perform in front of a packed hall.”

Competitions

“Capers is only part of our performing arts programme, along with our drama competition and the national talent competition and I would encourage all of you to follow the progress of these competitions as the year goes on.

“This special Capers final would not be possible without the hard work of Waterford Macra na Feirme whose preparations will allow our finalists to give the best performance they can.

“I would like to thank them for their hard work and congratulate them on a great night.

"I would also like to thank our sponsors FBD for their continued support of this competition and of our organisation which allows us to run the wide variety of programmes we do,” the Macra president said.

He concluded by wishing the best of luck to Athboy, Causeway, Clonakilty, Enfield, Mountmellick and Termonfeckin Macra clubs ahead of the final.
