Under-body improvements include improved braking performance.
Valuable brand
Toyota has been the number one car brand in seven of the nine years of the international BrandZ Top-100 study. Despite its massive car recalls in 2009 and 2010, Toyota continues to recover its brand reputation. BMW was ranked second, with Mercedes Benz third. Ford made the biggest improvement, leaping past Volkswagen and Nissan into the top-five. The only member of the 2014 top 10 to have its value drop was the Volkswagen brand, which slipped by 4%. Audi increased in brand value.
Kia refreshes SUV
The new 2014 Kia Soul compact SUV went on sale recently with a new evolution of the distinctive exterior look and improved fuel economy. Two models are available in Ireland – the EX (€24,495) and the Platinum (€28,495), both powered by the same 128hp, 1.6-litre diesel engine. The new Soul comes with 20km/litre fuel economy and 132g CO2/km emissions.
Digital distraction
New research carried out by Millward Brown has revealed that while just 3% of drivers rate themselves as unsafe, almost half (46%) admit to engaging in distracting activities when driving. The campaign, supported by Liberty Insurance, aims to encourage drivers to change their behaviour in an effort to make Irish roads safer. Around 56% of respondents said they would consider themselves to be as safe as most drivers. Eating while driving was cited by 9% of respondents.
