One of the companies exhibiting at the FTMTA Farm Machinery Show is precision farming specialist Progressive Agriculture Solutions. Set up by John Arrell in 2011, Progressive Agriculture Solutions supplies farms and contractors in Northern Ireland and the Republic with a range of precision agriculture solutions.
“Farming is tough at the minute, global market prices have dropped and as a result farmers across Ireland are feeling the squeeze. We need to look at the problem we have from a perspective of what we can control and what we cannot. We cannot control the price of our inputs or the price we get for our produce. We can control how we utilise our available resources. And this can be achieved through precision farming,” said John Arrell.
Agents for Leica Geosystems, Progressive Agriculture Solutions can provide a number of guidance options. Entry level farm GPS guidance systems assist drivers by using light-bar GPS tractor guidance for manual steering. Systems are available right through to fully automated tractor steering systems that work with an RTK system to give repeatable pass-to-pass accuracy of 2cm.
The range of solutions can also be used to provide GPS automatic steering for combine harvesters, self-propelled silage harvesters and mowers – all with the aim of improving efficiency by lowering the number of passes required to complete the task in hand.
Progressive Agriculture Solutions is developing a RTK network throughout Ireland in partnership with strategic dealers. This is achieved by using a Leica network base station that broadcasts a RTK correction over a 25km radius, allowing vehicles working within that area to achieve 2cm RTK accuracy.
Other precision farming solutions available from Progressive Agriculture Solutions include a GPS soil scanning service. This allows detailed images of surface and subsoil structure variability to be created. In combination with GPS targeted soil sampling and analysis, variable rate maps can be produced to suit your various agricultural machines.
At the show Progressive Agriculture Solutions will also be exhibiting the YARA N-Sensor. This facilitates variable-rate nitrogen application on crops. For this and a whole range of GPS guidance and precision agricultural solutions, visit the PAS team at the FTMTA Farm Machinery Show,
