Cavan sausages among 2025 Grow with ALDI winners

ALDI Ireland recently announced the three winners of its 2025 Grow with ALDI programme, which is in its eighth year and aims to help Irish food producers develop into larger volume supply.

The 2025 winners are Barry John Sausages from Co Cavan; Supernature Snacks – which specialises in chocolate snacks made with natural ingredients – from Dublin; and Oatco Superfuel, which makes oat-based energy balls with wholesome ingredients and are based in Co Tyrone.

Products from the winning businesses are now available in 166 ALDI stores nationwide and for any interested food producers, the 2026 Grow with ALDI programme is due to launch on 30 January.

Known within his locality as the “Willy Wonka of sausages” thanks to his many whimsical flavour combinations, Barry Crowe of Barry John Sausages was delighted to be named one of the 2025 winners.

His family have operated a butcher’s shop in Cavan town for over 50 years, and he tells Irish Country Living that his award-winning sausage range is largely a result of growing up making sausages and burgers in the shop.

His winning Chip Shop Curry Sausages are lightly battered and flavoured with a mild curry spice – they were a firm favourite among Irish shoppers when the 30 Grow with ALDI finalist products were featured on shelf this past September.

“We are absolutely delighted to be named one of this year’s Grow with ALDI winners,” Barry said.

“As a family-run business, this opportunity means so much to us and represents a huge milestone in our journey. Seeing our Chip Shop Curry Sausages land on shelves nationwide is incredibly exciting, and we’re very grateful to ALDI and the Grow team for their support throughout the process.

“This past year we branched out to develop 26 unique flavours for our sausages,” he added. “Getting a nationwide listing and exposure across the country is massive for a small business like ours. Winning is a great feeling, and it’s been a huge achievement for all of us in the business.”
