James Campbell is to be awarded an MBE for services to agriculture. He joined the Irish Farmers Journal in 1984 and held the position of Northern editor until June 2013. He retired from contributing to the Irish Farmers Journal in September last year.
Mr Campbell is also a former chair of the Northern Ireland Agricultural Research and Development Council (AgriSearch) and currently holds the position of senior vice chairman on its board.
He was brought up on a mixed farm in Newtonards in Co Down and worked as an economist in the Ulster Farmers’ Union prior to joining the Farmers Journal.

He holds a BSc degree in biochemistry, Master of Agriculture in farm business economics and postgraduate diploma in agricultural communications, all from Queen's University Belfast.
