With 13,445 farms in Galway and 12,248 farms in Mayo, it is no surprise that these counties have a leadership position in Irish farming and agribusiness.

Farmers in both counties operate in most challenging conditions, but are considered among the most productive farmers in Ireland, as we can see on page 10 with Sean Dolphin.

Lorcan Allen informs us of the rise in price for Mayo land after a fall for the previous two years, while the price of land in Galway has remained very steady year-on-year, which is positive news for farmers.

Galway accounts for 347,123ha of land farmed and Mayo for 278,997ha, so it is no wonder both regions take first and second position in the country for the total number of Massey Ferguson tractors used on Irish farms.

While farming is important, so is rural life. Our special supplement not only focuses on farming and agribusiness but also the Irish Country Living aspect, which focuses less on farm work and more on places to eat and stay, nice places to visit and things to do with the family. Both counties provide the best.

There is no doubt Galway and Mayo attract plenty of tourism and continue to produce food and drink entrepreneurs of all kinds.
