Glenamaddy Show brought the 2018 showing season to a close at the weekend. The appearance of Nevin Maguire may have boosted the crowd, while the indoor cattle showing facilities, live band and children’s entertainment kept everyone entertained.

There was, of course, also a wide variety of classes, which attracted a large pedigree entry.

The cattle section started with the junior and senior young handler competitions, which went to Patricia Moore and Daniel Maloney respectively.

Charolais

Michael Barren judged the Charolais section and tapped out Grangewood Nora for the O’Keeffe family as his winner, a November 2017-born heifer sired by Crossmolina Jupiter. Reserve went to the Feeney brothers, Sligo with their 2018 born heifer by Anside Foreman.

Grangewood Nora also went on to take the interbreed championship.

Simmental

Tisaran Her Majesty continued her winning ways for Martin Mooney, Shannonbridge, taking the female heifer born before July 2017 class abefore on to be crowned Simmental champion. Tisaran Her Majesty has had a phenomenal year, winning 10 red rosettes at the 10 shows she attended, along with eight breed championships and two reserves. She is by Curaheen Wakeman out of Fearna Faith.

Reserve went to Brian and Olivia Flanagan for their October 2017-born stylist heifer Farm Genny by Aivoch DeuterPP.

Limousin

Michael Barron was back in charge in the Limousin section. Pearse McNamee took the red rosette in the largest class of the day, heifer born from Sept to Dec 2017.

His very stylish December-2017 born heifer Kiltoal Maggie by Ampertaine Gigolo (S1633) was tapped out the LImousin champion and went on to take the Reserve Interbreed berth. Reserve went to Magheraboy Maverick by sire Mullary Intrepid for James Coffey.

Angus

Bernard Kerins had a worthwhile trip from Ballymote, Co Sligo, topping the Angus section with Kerins Nikemi. This October 2016-born heifer is no stranger to the spotlight, being a previous All-Ireland champion. She is by Redwood Eiger out of home-bred dam Kerins Kemi.

Kerins also filled the reserve spot with Kerins Perkemi, who was sired by Bunlahy Kojak and is also out of homebred dam Kerins Kemi.

Commercial

Last but not least was the Commercial section, judged by William Smith.

Smith tapped out the picture-perfect bull calf, Sambuca, shown by Luke Barnett, Donegal as overall Commercial champion.

Reserve went to the Maxwell brothers for Vila sol, sired by Sauvignon, an All Ireland champion at Castlerea and Grange .
