Having got off to a promising start last year, this second edition of the Goresbridge select sale of jumpers and eventers made significant progress.

Confined to just 26 pre-selected three-year-olds (23 forward) the trade was red hot for the stand outs, with two lots realising €40,000 apiece.

Another smart individual changed hands for €30,000, while the price for the best filly was €18,000.

These sale-topping returns were backed up solidly with a further number of notable prices leading to an average of just shy of €17,000 (€14,200 in 2021) together with a clearance of 70% (60% in 2021).

Sale topper

The catalogue had been pre-selected by Alain Storme and Sally Parkyn, and it was the latter who accounted for joint sale topper at €40,000.

Bidding on behalf Ballypatrick Stables (Greg Broderick), Parkyn’s pick was Mairead Lacey’s homebred Rosconnell Tango, a chestnut gelding by the Kylemore Stud resident Tyson and the first foal out of CSF Sophie (by Good Luck VDL).

Equalling the €40,000 was another homebred in MBF Sport Horses’ MBF Golden Mix, gelding by Aganix du Seigneur out of the thoroughbred mare MBF Nora by Milan.

This good sort was secured on the telephone by American buyer Kim Meyer, while a little later in the proceedings Mary Bolger and Jason Higgins’ gelding by Parco out of the jumper Kilcannon Cavaquin by Harlequin du Carel was knocked down to Justin Nell for €30,000.

Three fillies from the four forward changed hands, with Evan O’Connor’s athletic Ballygriffin Into The Max looking well bought by Ivor Broderick at €18,000. Another by the popular Tyson, she was bred by Mary McInerney out of Max Naughty But Nice (Chacoa).
