John Taylor from Co Tyrone has featured with numerous bands over the years, including Big Tom and The Travellers. These times John is lining out with the Stephen Smyth Band from Co Down. John has always been one of the finest comperes in Ireland and brings a touch of class to the job.
Last week marked the ninth anniversary of the death of one of our finest country singers, Johnny Loughrey. Johnny was born and raised in Newtownstewart, Co Tyrone, but spent the bulk of his life in Manchester. His passing at the age of 59 was a huge loss to the scene. Today, his son Shaun continues the Loughrey tradition, playing shows all around.
Paul McCahill and his son Jason will launch their albums on the same night in Josie’s Country Tavern, Letterkenny, on 10 May. The Ryan Turner Band and other guests will also feature.

Bat Kinane and The Whole Hog Band have released a new single, Remember Yesterday. The song was composed by Bat and is taken from their new album, Ordinary Days.
Larry Gogan has been a broadcasting institution in Ireland for many years. It was lovely to meet up with him recently. Watch out for a special Irish Country Sound feature with him in next week’s issue.
