The Kye and Hayfield herds shared top price honours at last week's Hereford sale in Kilmallock. The top price of €3,300 was first hit by Kye Morgan 883, bred and exhibited by Padraig McGrath, Co Roscommon. This July 2019-born bull is sired by Gageboro Morgan, carries four stars on the replacement index and was the choice of a Cork-based commercial farmer.

Matching that price was new Limerick breeder John Hartigan with Hayfield Maxulius George. Boasting four stars on both the terminal and replacement index, this August 2019-born bull is a son of AI bull Trillick George.

Kye Morgan 883 made €3,300 for a share of top spot with Hayfield Maxulius George.

Sinead Conroy from Roscommon sold her bull Rathnollag Racer at €3,000. This September 2019-born bull was sired by F.H William, with the dam a daughter of Steil Gerard. Again boasting four stars on both traits, he sold having already served.

Securing a price of €2,700 was Aliehs Harry 6 from Kerry breeders Timmie and Sheila O’Sullivan. Sired by Free Town Hotsur-bred bull, Kye Harry 697, this bull boasts high ratings on a number of indexes.

Moyclare Sandler from Offaly-based Michael Molloy was next in line when he made €2,500. This June 2019-born bull is a son of Free Town Nadal.

Also hitting €2,500 was Boveen Ted from Joe O’Connor, Co Offaly. This son of Ballyvlinngold Captain ranks in the top 20% on the replacement index.

Overall, numbers on offer were back, with just 23 present out of the 38 catalogued. Of those to pass through the ring, 60% found a new home, with an average price of €2,464.
