The 20th Cavan Home Pony International Show starts today (Thursday 10 July) and runs until Sunday.

Cavan Equestrian’s Leona Smith tells The Irish Horse that this event has attracted competitors from all over Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

“We are completely booked out for the event and are looking forward to one of the biggest pony shows in Europe and Ireland’s only home pony international, with over 600 ponies entered.”

One of the biggest attractions will be the team events on Saturday, commencing with the 128cm under-10s, followed by 128 teams, 138 teams and 148 teams. This is always an exciting afternoon of show jumping. Sunday will see the excitement of the Grand Prix events unfold, starting from the 128 under-10s, 128, 138 Brian Taggart Memorial and 148 Kerry Turkington memorial, which is kindly sponsored by Ballywalter Stables.

Course builder for the event is Marinos Vos from the Netherlands, who is one of the best course builders in Europe and should produce some fantastic rounds of jumping.
