Contractor Andrew McDonnell pulls fodder beat for dairy, tillage and beef farmer Sean Ryan in Knockraheen, Co Carlow.

Sean is very happy with this year's yield of between 35 and 40 tonnes per acre. Sean explains that in the seven years growing beet, this particular field seems to produce bigger beets.

The beet will be used on farm over the winter to supplement silage for his housed animals.

Our picture editor Philip Doyle spent some time with them recently in the winter sun to capture some images of the process.
