Monday saw a special sale of weanlings at Balla mart, where trade was brisk although numbers were quite small, with just over 100 animals sold. Weanling sales will be held on Tuesday’s from 1 September onwards.

Weanling bulls from 200kg-350kg averaged €2.53/kg, with top-quality Charolais and Limousin types making €2.65-€2.85/kg in general. Bull weanlings between 350kg and 450kg averaged €2.39/kg and hit €2.99/kg for a February-born Charolais weighing 375kg (€1,120). Plainer types were making between €2.15 and €2.25/kg.

There were a dozen weanling bulls in the 450kg+ weight range, with an average price paid of €2.18/kg and with €2.20 to €2.35/kg available for better-quality continental types.

Heifers

There was a smaller number of heifers forward for sale, with those weighing 200kg-350kg averaging €2.35/kg, while those in the 350kg-450kg weight range made €2.45/kg on average.

This July 2019-born Limousin weighed 310kg and sold for €800 (€2.58/kg).

This February-born Charolais weighed 330kg and sold for €810 (€2.45/kg).

This April-born Limousin weighed 320kg and sold for €730 (€2.28/kg).

This January-born Charolais weighed 380kg and sold for €1080 (€2.84/kg).

This January-born Charolais weighed 420kg and made €1080 (€2.57/kg).

This January-born Limousin weighed 325kg and sold for €770 (€2.37/kg).

This January-born Charolais weighed 375kg and sold for €1020 (€2.72/kg).

This August 2019-born Charolais weighed 375kg and sold for €770 (€2.05/kg).

This March-born Charolais heifer weighed 360kg and sold for €820 (€2.28/kg).

This December 2019-born Charolais heifer weighed 350kg and sold for €800 (€2.29/kg).
