Martin Molony (91) dominated Irish racing in the post World War Two era when he was champion jumps jockey in Ireland from 1946 to 1951. In his short career, Moloney won the Cheltenham Gold Cup, three Irish Grand Nationals and three Irish Classics.
Meanwhile, Tommy Carberry (75) achieved the notable feat of riding and training the winner of the Aintree Grand National. He famously landed the great race on L’Escargot in 1975, defeating Red Rum, while in 1999 Carberry sent out Bobbyjo under his son, Paul, to record a never to be forgotten triumph.
In the 1970s Carberry was the dominant National Hunt jockey in Ireland, winning multiple championships.
