John Deere has announced the closure and liquidation of the Mazzotti sprayer brand. The move follows a period of low order volumes specific to the Italian-built, self-propelled sprayer business. The move is believed to be part of the company’s broader strategy to streamline its global operations around a more standardised product portfolio.

Further to that, Deere recently made the decision to discontinue the PLA sprayer and planter brand in Brazil.

In a statement, John Deere said that 29 employees will be affected by the closure of the Mazzotti facility in Ravenna, Italy and that no other John Deere facilities have been affected. Support measures for impacted employees are being addressed through the ongoing consultation with the Italian unions and authorities.

The company also said that it remains focused on supporting customers during this transition and will continue to support the existing fleet of John Deere 300M Series and Mazzotti sprayer families with parts and service.

Templetuohy Farm Machinery Ltd (TFM) has been the sole Irish importer for the Mazzotti sprayer brand in Ireland .

John Deere acquired the Mazzotti brand in 2017 to strengthen its position within the self-propelled sprayer market in Europe. At the time the Italian manufacturer specialised in high-clearance sprayers for speciality and European row crop applications.

Soon after, the Italian brand became officially endorsed and integrated with John Deere technology. Products appeared with a new logo bearing the slogan ‘by John Deere’ under the Mazzotti brand name.

As time passed, it became clear that John Deere wanted to further integrate the Ravenna-based brand and eventually discontinue the IBIS and MAF self-propelled sprayer ranges and instead focus on the 300M and 500R Series.

At Agritechnica in 2023, six years after its acquisition, John Deere showcased the Italian built Mazzotti 300 series in the green John Deere livery for the first time.

This move brought about even more integration including the further use John Deere’s precision technology including the latest G5 Plus cab display.
