Just prior to his departure for this week’s Longines World Cup Final in Las Vegas, Ireland’s Bertram Allen had a good run of success at the five-star Hermes jumping competition in the Grand Palace, Paris, last weekend. He opened with a second in the two-phase on Quiet Easy, but then in Saturday’s 1.50m class he came up with a win on the stallion Romanov, ahead of Michael Whitaker on Amai.
Allen and Romanov had the fastest four in Sunday’s Grand Prix, to place 10th behind winner Roman Duguet of Switzerland, on Quorida de Treho, a mare that is by world number one Kannan, who is also the sire of Bertram’s Molly Molone.
Denis Lynch retired in the Grand Prix, but had a 1.50m second on Abbervail van het Dingeshof. Billy Twomey and Tinka’s Serenade also knocked one in the Grand Prix, but he came third in an earlier class with Lizziemary. In the under 25s section, Michael Duffy scored a win on Cortina 200.
