Two legs of the Top Spec Autumn Grand Prix took place on Sunday, with Kernan’s in Northern Ireland and Maryville in Cork hosting a leg each.

Tyrone rider Jonathan Smyth dominated in Kernan’s, filling the top three places. Smyth was one of six double clears and won the class with Charlton Clio in 34.54 seconds.

Bred by Peter Mulrine from Donegal and owned by Richard J W Smyth, Charlton Clio (ISH) is a 12-year-old mare by HHS BR Charlton, out of the Clover Hill-sired mare Admiran Clio. Mulrine has registered 10 offspring from the dam, three of which are by HHS BR Charlton.

Charlton Chloe (11) is a full sister and is currently jumping in the Children in Horses ranks with Niamh McEvoy. The combination won the Children on Horses Championships in Dublin this year. Smyth finished as runner-up with Mulvin Lui jumping clear in 35.16, and filled third with Ping Ball, clear in 36.28.

Maryville

In Maryville seven combinations jumped double clear. Victory went to 21-year-old Galway native Raphael Lee Jnr. Riding Captain Marko Lee posted the winning clear round in 42.52. Bred by Gabriel Slattery, the eight-year-old gelding is by Captain Clover and out of White Kannan.

Back from International duty, Captain Geoff Curran put his name on the leader board by finishing second with Glengarra Wood. Slotting into third was Francis Connors and Capitol Cruis. Fourth place went to Maura Counihan Jnr and Killerisk.

Lee added to his success finishing fifth with Raymond O’Connor’s Oilean Dunlop and Jessica Burke completed the lineup with Express Trend.
