Well known within the industry for its galvanised machines, Joskin has recently completed a large project at its galvanising plant in Poland. The project was to replace its existing zinc tank which was installed back in 2010.

The large zinc tank had come to the point where it needed thorough and rigorous maintenance having galvanised over 100,000t of steel during its lifespan, according to Joskin. So, instead the decision was made to replace the original zinc tank.

Given its size, transportation and installation of the new 47t tank required a lot of organisation and planning. After five days preparation, including the removal of the factory's roof, the tank was lowered into position via crane.

The next step was to transfer 700t of liquid zinc at 450°C into the new tank before a period of 48 hours of heating and further gradual filling through the addtion of zinc ingots.

The new zinc bath weighs 47t.
