Toyota has updated its flagship Land Cruiser 4x4 for 2021, adding a new 2.8l common-rail four-cylinder diesel engine.

This change brings a 27bhp boost in power output, meaning the engine now churns out 201bhp.

Torque has also seen an increase by 50Nm to 500Nm between 1,600rpm and 2,800rpm.

Models mated with the six-speed automatic transmission are now equipped with stop-start technology. Acceleration from 0-100km/h is at 9.9 seconds, which is 3.0 seconds faster than the outgoing model. Maximum speed tops out at 175km/h.

Fuel consumption

Toyota says that despite these increases in torque, power and acceleration, there is a saving in fuel consumption and CO2 due to the stop-start technology.

Inside the cabin, a new multimedia system is welcomed. Not only is the new entertainment system faster than before, but more responsive and more customisable. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is now supported.

Units are available now, with prices from €45,160 including a 2% VAT reduction, and from €38,171 excluding-VAT.
