New research shows the majority of people aged 50+ have poor knowledge of shingles despite the fact they are at an increased risk. The “Have you heard about shingles?” campaign revealed only 8% of respondents knew you cannot develop shingles unless you’ve previously had chickenpox. Two out of three cases of shingles occur in people over 50, and the disease tends to be more severe in older adults.

“We recommend starting a conversation about shingles with neighbours, friends and family to raise awareness,” says Dr Johnny Loughnane.
