Purple Run for Down Syndrome Awareness Month

This October, Down Syndrome Ireland invites everyone to take part in the Purple Run, a month-long challenge during Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Participants are encouraged to complete a marathon (42km) over the month, raising vital funds to support the charity’s work. Members Sophie, Nathan, and Darren – who found jobs through DSI’s Employment Programme – helped launch the event with their colleagues. Traitor trends

As we bid farewell to Traitors on RTÉ, one thing we’ll miss almost as much as the drama is Siobhán McSweeney’s impeccable style. Week after week, the Cork actress delivered outfits and accessories that stole the scene. Fans can steal her style with a pair of striking hoops from indie boutique, Don’t Kill My Vibe. These Claddagh hoop earrings, €42, add a fashion-forward edge with a modern twist on the timeless Irish symbol of love, loyalty and friendship. So whether you channel your inner Faithful or Traitor, these earrings are a must-have. See dontkillmyvibe.ie

The Golden Mile by Christina White, Co Tipperary

As I stroll along the

“Golden Mile”,

The playground of my youth,

Fond memories fly

to days gone by,

When fun was our

main pursuit.

No need for Google to recall,

Those days when we ran free,

Foraging through the

hedgerows,

Scoffing berries with

such glee!

With father in the meadows,

Our energy was well spent,

Saving hay ’til end of day,

Then home to bed we went.

His garden carefully

nourished,

With produce, a feast for all,

Ooh! for a feed of

floury spuds,

As the evening shadows fall.

My mother’s great colcannon,

As we arrived from school,

We’d fill our bellies

to the brim,

That was the golden rule.

That little bridge above

the stream,

Where we fished in

days of yore,

Displays with pride, these famous words,

“Tipp’s GOLDEN MILE” two thousand and four.

The meitheal of good

neighbours,

Pillars of strength I recall,

They’ve gone to live

with God above,

His peace to one and all.
