The Irish Limousin Cattle Society will hold a pedigree and commercial Limousin cow carcase competition on Monday 26, Wednesday 28 and Friday 30 January, at Ashbourne Meat Processors, Roscrea, Co Tipperary.

The Irish Limousin Cow Carcase Competition is open to pedigree cull cows and commercial Limousin cross cows.

It focuses on rewarding breeders for producing high-quality cows and also developing a sales outlet between Limousin breeders and Ashbourne Meats, that benefits the producer and the processor.

The cow price for the event will be decided the week before the competition, but a bonus price will operate over the list price. The organisers have also said that cows under 350kg and cows with a fat score of over five will be paid the normal price on the days.

Prizes will be awarded from first to seventh position for Limousin cross cows and the same for pedigree Limousin cows.

There is a healthy prize fund of €2,000 for the top seven cows in the pedigree and commercial sections, with the first prize winner in each section receiving €400.

Second prize is €250 and third prize is €150. Fourth to seventh place will receive a prize of €50 each.

Presentation of prizes from the event will take place on Tuesday, 3 February, in Ashbourne Meats. For further details, visit www.irishlimousin.com
