It is understood that two of the six regional clubs of the Irish Limousin Cattle Society wants the requirement to be a member of the Whole Herd Performance Recording programme (WHPR) for premier sales dropped.

The Limousin society was the first to confirm its commitment to the WHPR, shortly after the programme was released by the ICBF in late 2016. Further showing its commitment, the society then made it a mandatory requirement for any breeders wishing to exhibit at any of its premier sales.

However, with most of these breeders now in the programme over a year, it seems many are unhappy. It’s reported that the southeast and northeast clubs want it brought back to council that they want to see the requirement to be a participant in the programme for sales made optional.

This would stand as a significant blow for the ICBF, as Limousin breeders make up the majority of the participants, largely due to the sale requirement.
