Krone revised its Big X forage harvester lineup, with the introduction of a new 843hp Big X 860 model, replacing the 898hp 880. This offers a broader range of choices within the growing 700hp to 900hp powerband.
The biggest change is the move away from the V8 and V12 engine blocks used in previous models, to a more efficient Liebherr in-line, six-cylinder configuration. The 18l unit delivers a high torque value of 4,000Nm at 1,300rpm.
Meanwhile, Stage V engine emissions are met without the need for DPF or DOC.
Running costs too are said to be lowered, with engine service intervals every 1,000 hours or every two years. Like the rest of the Krone Big X range, the 860 features the PowerSplit. This allows engine performance to be adjusted as required.
If full power isn’t needed, operators can work in Eco-Power mode until a situation where full power is needed arised, at which point X-Power mode can be engaged either manually or automatically.
Elsewhere, the Big X 860 incorporates all Krone’s well-known selling points, including six pre-compression rollers, a large chopping drum, and the VariStream concept with sprung floors under the chopper drum, and behind the accelerator.

The Big X 860 reaches its maximum torque of 4,000Nm at 1,300rpm.
