The Pöttinger Autocut knife sharpening system allows the driver to sharpen the knives of a silage pick-up wagon without having to remove them from the machine.

The uptake on the system has been a little slow to date, especially in Ireland. This is despite the fact that the system offers impressive benefits.
The knife sharpening system on Pöttinger Jumbo, Jumbo combiline and Torro loader wagons allows the knives to be sharpened automatically while fixed on the wagon. This adds a new level of convenience. The system reduces time spent on maintenance while ensuring optimum chopping quality at all times, reduced energy consumption and increased performance.
For most wagons the knives have to be removed from the silage wagon and sharpened in the workshop or at a dealership. Typically, knives are changed just once, at the end of a working day, but the knives inevitably become blunter as the day wears on.

This can increase the power requirement by up to 15%. Diesel consumption increases in direct proportion to knife bluntness. Automatic sharpening using the Pöttinger Autocut system can take place during a harvesting break. A further bonus is that the driver does not need to clean and grind the knives after a long working day.
