Serrat mulcher
Leslie Plant & Machinery Sales, the Irish importer of Serrat mulching equipment showcased a range of three-point linkage and digger mounted mulchers.
One machine attracting plenty of attention was the new Agricola T-2800 2.8m in-line mulcher with a hydraulic opening rear door.
The Agricola series is available in working widths from 1.4m to 2.8m. The 2.8m unit weighs 1,379kg and features a Hardox steel chassis. In total there are 28 forged flails wrapped around a 550mm rotor. There are nine lines of counter hammers which are designed to ensure a fine mulch of material. A key feature of this particular model is the hydraulic rear door which enables the mulcher to handle larger bushes and denser vegetation. Transmitting power from the 540rpm gearbox are four drive belts.
Vector post driver for diggers and loaders
Longford-based Johnston Farm Equipment, dealers of the Kilkenny-built Vector post driver range, exhibited the Model 6 designed for compatibility with tractor front loaders via Euro brackets and mini diggers from 1.5t and upwards.
Features of the Model 6 include a 200kg solid steel hammer, short mast for transport and a weight transfer mechanism to transfer the weight of the excavator onto the post while driving, making the hammer more effective. A Rockspike is optionally available which is an extra attachment that enables the operator to punch a 90mm pilot hole in rocky or hardened ground before driving the fence post. Another key feature is that the unit is operated from the cab without the need for an operator at ground level.
Bednar Swifterdisc XN 3000 Disc harrow
Bednar dealer Alan Douglas Farm Machinery showcased a Swifterdisc XN 3000 disc harrow and Galaxy ring roller from the Czech-manufactured equipment range.
The Swifterdisc XN is available with either 525mm or 560mm diameter disc options. All disc rows are mounted at 16°. Alongside the typical scalloped type disc, Bednar offers its own patented disc design which allows an increased surface cutting area, ideal for situations such as cover crop destruction.
Extra weight can be added to the harrow’s frame by adding additional leaf type weights. Depth adjustments are, again, hydraulic and set using 10mm spacers clips. Bednar uses a twin-disc mounting system whereby two discs are mounted on the one arm to allow for better material flow. Each disc arm is protected against shock by rubber dampers. Seven rear packer roller options are available depending on preference.
Massey Ferguson 9S.425
Massey Ferguson dealers EV Condell showcased a range of tractor models catering for all customers. However, one model making its debut at a show in the Republic of Ireland was the flagship 9S.425
The 9S range replaces the outgoing 8700S series and includes six models, with power outputs from 285hp to 425hp. The models are numbered according to their maximum power – 285, 310, 340, 370, 400 and 425. All models aside from the 9S.425 feature an engine boost of up to 30hp at speeds above 15km/h for PTO and at hydraulic applications except the 9S.425.

Massey Ferguson- The 9S range replaces the outgoing 8700S series and includes six models.
The range is fitted with an 8.4l, six-cylinder AGCO Power engine and unlike before, the engine does not require an EGR valve and moves to a single turbocharger setup. Married to the engine is the Fendt-derived DynaVT stepless transmission.
The updated hydraulic system can be specified to churn out up to 400l/min. Weighing in at 10,900kg, the 9S.425 offers a power-to-weight ratio of 25.4kg/hp.
Rear maximum lift capacity is 12,000kg, while front-linkage maximum lift capacity is 5,000kg.
Abbey debuts bale shear
Well-known Tipperary-based machinery manufacturer Abbey has recently entered the bale shear market. Recognising the popularity of bale shears and with the attachment now being grant aided through TAMS III, more and more farmers are investing in the items. With its design, Abbey has opted for a floating clamp design to retain the plastic and net. Once the machine picks up a bale, the floating clamp hinges on the same frame as the cutting blade, meaning both move parallel to one another. The clamp is loaded using a hydraulic sequencing valve. When the shears are closed, oil is diverted via the sequencing valve, engaging the hooks to catch the film/net. Once the frame has been fully opened, the hooks release and let go of the film/net. The unit is fitted with five heavy-duty tines. The machine weighs in at 440kg (excluding brackets) and can be supplied with bolt-on brackets to suit any headstock.
Erth E-Series entry level drill
The E-Series is the new entry level drill in the Agriseeder range from Co Down-based Erth Engineering. The popular Agriseeder direct drill enables farmers to establish crops with minimal soil disturbance in comparison to traditional inversion methods.

Prices start from €24,500 plus VAT for the E-Series.
The new Agriseeder E-Series entry-level machine features a new simplified set up with 24 rows across its 3m chassis. The drill is fitted with a low-level 170l plastic hopper. It’s fitted with a hydraulic front harrow as standard to remove dead grass.
Suitable for grass, cover crops, fodder crops and clover, the Agriseeder E-Series uses the Erth micro metering system, which is served by an electric fan, to deliver seed through a distribution head to a fully auto contouring disc system with galvanised coulters. Suitable for tractors from 90hp up, prices start from €24,500 plus VAT.
Atkins showcase Vogelsang’s
latest 9m trailing shoe
Atkins showcased the latest in slurry kit from German slurry specialist Vogelsang. This included the new 9m Unispread trailing shoe. Company representatives explained that Vogelsang has put a lot of time into developing a wide range of trailing shoes for the European market, including the new Unispread. Its Unispread entry level offering can be used as a dribble bar and a trailing shoe system with working widths of 6m, 7.5m, 9m and 10.5m. In the dribble bar form, these units weigh from 560kg up to 810kg, whereas in the trailing shoe format, weights range from 600kg up to 900kg.

The Vogelsgang system on the stand in Tullamore featured a 40-outlet ECL macerator with a heavy-duty internal setup for Irish conditions.
The applicators can be fitted with a choice of Vogelsang’s own ECQ or ECL macerator. The system on the stand featured a 40-outlet ECL macerator with a heavy-duty internal setup for Irish conditions. With 250mm hose centres, it applies up to 5kg downward pressure to each shoe.
The Unispread linkages are attached directly behind a tanker using a four-point hitch or are permanently mounted to a tanker using a three-point hitch. They can also be used on umbilical systems. This range features integrated break back protection, are vertically folding and feature an in-cab control unit. The Irish Farmers Journal understands that a 12m version will be launched before year end.
Seppi flagship makes Irish debute
The L9 flex is the flagship model in Seppi’s four model offset mulcher offering.
