The new tractor market in Ireland continues to perform steadily ahead of last year, up 14% – or a total of 255 units – to the end of November.
The latest FTMTA tractor registration figures show that a total of 35 new tractors were registered during the month of November, 59% more than November 2024 when 22 new units were registered.
The total up until the end of November stands at 2,051 units, up 14% on the 11-month period last year, when 1,796 new tractors were registered.
For the year to date, Cork has recorded a total of 292 new registrations, up a significant 24% (63 units) on 2024. Tipperary takes second place with 193 new registrations, up 19% (34 units) on last year. Meanwhile, Wexford claims third place with 120 new registrations.
The county recording the lowest number of registrations for the year to date and none for the last two months respectively is Leitrim with 19 new units. Carlow, Donegal, Laois, Longford, Mayo, Sligo and Waterford all recorded no new registrations during November either.
The 161hp to 200hp powerband has firmly secured its place as the most popular horsepower bracket. Over recent months, this powerband has accounted for 25% all new tractor registrations; that’s one in every four new tractors sold.
Northern Ireland
According to the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA), a total of 24 new tractors were registered in Northern Ireland during the month of November, this is down 48% on November 2024 when 39 new units were registered. On the other hand, the moving total for the year to date sits at 457 units, back 5% on last year when 482 new units were registered within the 11-month period.
Looking at the UK as a whole, AEA data shows that 421 new tractors were registered this November, a 3.2% increase on November 2024. Meanwhile, the year-to-date figure for the entire UK market sits at 8,250 units which is down 13% overall on the January-November period last year. On a positive note, the 421 new machines registered during November represented the highest November total since 2022.
Germany and the US
Looking towards mainland Europe, new tractor markets do not share the same air of positivity as Ireland. In Germany, for example, new tractor registrations are back 13% from January to the end of November, with 23,690 new tractors registered.
As we report on page 4, the US tractor market also continues to fall. From January to the end of October, the US recorded a total of 171,680 registrations, a drop of 9.2% on the same period in 2024.
