Fingal Vintage Society is staging a tractor marathon at Bergin’s Farm, Ballyboughal, Dublin, on Saturday and Sunday 9-10 August to raise funds towards a very special Ford 3000 tractor restoration project.
The 24-hour marathon involving two tractors will be a joint commemoration of the Ford 1000 series and Massey Ferguson 100 series tractors that are celebrating 50 years since their introduction.
The Fingal Vintage Society has sold one-hour slots in the marathon to some 48 drivers. The drivers will have the choice of ploughing with a two furrow reversible Agrolux Overum plough or a similar Kverneland plough. Both ploughs have been restored to working condition, while the tractors will include a modern generation Massey Ferguson and New Holland models.
Local dealers Armstrong Machinery (New Holland) and WBD Farm Machinery (Massey Ferguson) are providing the tractors. Each of the 48 drivers will receive personalised overalls from Agrolux or Kverneland as a memento.
The event will be staged in a 60-acre field on Bergin’s farm and will include a giant marquee and barbecue on the Saturday evening. The Fingal Vintage Society aims to unveil its restoration work on a very special Ford 3600 later this year.
De Courcey to host New Holland harvest day
The De Courcey Classic and Vintage Club, based in West Cork will be staging a New Holland-focused harvest working day at Barrell’s Cross, Kinsale, Co Cork, on Monday 4 August.
The De Courcey harvest working day 2014 will showcase modern and classic combine harvesters.
The event will feature machines such as the MZ89 model, and through the ages with the Clayes 103, the Clayson 135, Sperry/New Holland models of the ’60s and ’70s to the 80 Series, the TX32 and 34, the 60, 700, 800 and 8000 Series, with the CX8090 model representing the current range.
All of these machines will be seen operating in the harvesting area.
As well as combines, a full range of tractors from the Ford plant in Cork will be on show, featuring the Fordsons from Dagenhan, the 1000 series, the Silver Jubilee Ford 7810s and up to this year’s golden jubilee T6 and T7 models, manufactured in Basildon.

Dunmore’s double chop day
Dunmore Vintage Club is staging its fifth working show on Sunday 3 August outside the north Galway town.
The organisers of the event are hoping to create a world record for the highest number of double chop silage harvesters working in one field, powered by a range of pre-1989 tractors.
The Dunmore Vintage Club team is expecting to have more than 60 working harvesters of all types in action over 38 acres of strong grass on Noel Concannon’s farm.

Tractor pulling in Robert’s Cove
In Cork, Robert’s Cove Vintage Committee will be hosting its annual vintage festival and tractor pulling competition on Sunday 4 August.
