Yesterday’s sale here at Fermoy was better than the previous week. Numbers are starting to tail off and this is having a positive effect on demand. Cull cow numbers are still high, but there were more store buyers out for cows and, as a result, the trade was steady. Good-quality types carrying some flesh and straight from the parlour are selling from €1.00/kg to €1.15/kg while plainer types are making from €0.80/kg to €1.00/kg. There was more bite in the trade for store Angus and Hereford bullocks and heifers also with prices averaging from €1.70/kg to €1.80/kg with better types making €2.00/kg once again. While feedlot activity is decreasing, farmer activity was a little better.
