When did you set up your business and why?

The business was set up in 2016, borne out of a hobby and passion for jewellery design and millinery.

The business started very organically and grew by word of mouth.

Originally, I was making accessories for myself for special occasions and friends/family would compliment them. It was repeatedly said “you should be selling them” and soon people began asking me to make pieces for them.

Can you explain your process?

I take pieces of genuine leather deemed too small for the leather industry, responsibly, sustainably and ethically sourced.

Designs are made from pieces that would otherwise be discarded, hence having an environmental impact on waste minimisation.

Each piece is individually handcrafted in bold, strong colours and textures, in contemporary designs, influenced by travel, fabric, the world of vintage and nature.

All pieces are named as Gaeilge as a nod to the gentleness of the product on the Irish landscape, as well as the inspiration of the product. These lightweight statement pieces are becoming a fashion favourite.

What is your best seller?

The duilleog leather leaf earrings, both large and small sizes, are hugely popular.

The duilleog collection (the Irish for leaf) is inspired by the Irish beech leaf. The leaves don't fall during winter, but are resilient to all weathers until spring, when new growth appears.

Siobhán Daly's “Duilleog” leather leaf earrings, both large and small sizes, are hugely popular.

By holding on to their leaves, they retain and recycle their nutrients, nourishing themselves.

This is the basis for the collection, empowering women who wish to be uplifted by colour and design, accessories to make them look and feel good, and those who wish to add a unique element to their outfits.

What is it about your business that brings you joy?

I love designing and creating and working with leather: the smell, the texture, the colours make me so happy.

However, the ultimate joy for me is seeing my work on my customers and getting feedback that they felt amazing wearing my designs.

It's such a rewarding feeling knowing my vision and hard work has positively impacted my customer.

What advice would you give to another start up business?
