On a cold crisp sunny morning in Mogeely, east Cork, approximately 30 enthusiasts gathered for their annual Christmas vintage spin around east Cork. Mogeely Vintage Club had its first outing in 1999 and has been getting steadily bigger ever since.

The club has in excess of 60 members with a particular interest in vintage and classic silage-making equipment. Speaking to club, member Matthew McAuliffe said the club were just out for a spin after Christmas to cap-off a great year in the clubs history.

“We had a number of silage days this summer and this is the last outing of the year. We had a silage demonstration day in Clashmore, Co Waterford and also ran our own local event which were really successful. A lot of our members have vintage and classic silage making equipment which adds that bit extra to an event. It’s a bit cool today so a few members have opted for the modern tractors this year that are warmer on a day like today.”

Classics

Looking amongst the 30+ tractors, cars and vintage motorbikes that did turn out, a few notable examples caught my eye. A very clean County 1164 owned by Jim Harte was a stand-out vintage classic, as was a 1972 Oliver 255 with locally manufactured cab owned by George O’ Brien.

Beside these was another classic – a 1972 black Massey Ferguson 135. More modern examples were also present with a very clean and beautifully restored John Deere 3050 looking superb in the winter sunshine and a very well presented Ford 7810 II owned by Tom Wall.
