There was a sharper trade for cattle at the weekly sale in Clogher Valley Livestock Mart on Saturday.
In particular, prices for heavy cattle moved up a gear with the very best heavy steers surpassing the 400p/kg mark on a few occasions.
Whilst the strongest bullocks sold for 370p/kg to 390p/kg, the run of heavy steers went for around the mid-300s.
Lighter cattle were also a brisker trade. One of the best sellers on the day was a 395kg Charolais bullock that sold for £2,080 (527p/kg).
An example of a top selling heavier store was a 500kg Charolais steer that went for £2,170 (434p/kg).
Overall, 830 cattle passed through the sales rings in Clogher Mart on Saturday, which is a typical throughput for the mart at this time of year.
Cull cows averaged £1,855 for 203 lots sold. There were 177 bullocks which averaged £2,119 and 83 heifers sold to an average price of £1,804.
In the weanling ring, there were 95 lots which sold to an average price of £1,519. Dropped calves remain a strong trade with 165 calves averaging £785 on Saturday.
Outfit prices
Our photographer was in the suckler outfit and dairy cow ring where 65 lots averaged £1,645. It should be noted that this is an average price per head so, for a suckler outfit, this means £1,645 for the cow plus £1,645 for the calf.
Clogher Mart holds its weekly cattle sale on Saturdays from 10am. The weekly sheep sale takes place on Thursday evenings from 7pm.
