Kanturk Mart in Co Cork was the venue for the 2025 John Neenan Young handlers and Munster Hereford Branch calf show on Saturday 4 October.
Almost 30 young handlers took part in the event and it was followed by an impressive display of promising young calves which were judged by society president, Nigel Heatrick.
Claiming the overall male championship in the calf show was Michael O’Keeffe with Gurteragh Superman 1166, a February 2025-born son of Mullaghdoopoll 1 Finnian.

Standing reserve to him in the male section was Limerick breeders T and M Cregan with Tullaha Indy HH, a December 2024 born son of Tullaha Henrik.
In the females David Jones claimed the overall championship with Creagh Poppy HH, a seven-month-old daughter of Riverrock Tyson, while Pat Lynch took home the reserve female calf championship with Rossdelia Maisy, a yearling daughter of Churchcrosspoll 1 Hurler.
Young handlers
In the young handlers section, the competition was spectacular in all three age categories. Limerick native John Cregan won the junior section, with Cork girl Aveen Curtin standing first in the intermediates and Conor O’Rourke taking the red ribbons in the seniors.
