Jim and Fram Jeffery, Midleton, took the supreme championship at the Charollais Society hogget ewe show and sale in Tullow. A steady trade for hogget ewes generated a 90% clearance and an average of €560. Ewes lambs, on the other hand, averaged €370 and produced an 80% clearance. A number of the buyers were new breeders who bought multiple lots.
The champion was a Logie Durno Real McCoy hogget ewe from the Bawnard flock of Jim and Fram Jeffrey that later sold for the second highest price of €800. The Jeffrey duo received another €800 for a daughter of Bawnard the Beast.
The top price of €810 came from the Awbeg flock of Eddie and Sheena McCarthy, Buttevant, with a daughter of Island Navaho, while Michael Higgins, Athenry, Co Galway, took home €580 and €760, respectively for two daughters of Kilbarry Maximum. Joe Nolan, Feenagh, Co Carlow, Kilconnor flock sold a Lisfuncheon Drico ewe for €450.
In the ewe lamb section, Frank Barrett, Blackhill flock, Dunlavin, Co Wicklow, took the top price with his reserve supreme champion, a classy Cloghala Gold ewe lamb that sold for €580. Frank also took home €400 for a daughter of Lisfuncheon Kid.
June Harpur, Haggard flock Bannow, Co Wexford, received €500 for a second prize-winning ewe lamb by Duisce Lachlan, while Kieran Forde, Blakeney flock, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, got €500 for a Kilbarry Plunkett daughter.
Kevin Brady, Killurin flock, Killeigh, Co Offaly, sold a ewe lamb by Lisfuncheon Star for €360 while Willie Gleeson, Wexfo flock, New Ross, took home €300 for his Lisfuncheon Mississippi ewe.

Shorthorn heifers sell to €1,980 in Castlerea
There was almost a complete clearance at the Moyside and Croghan Shorthorn Breeders Club annual sale in Castlerea Mart where 96 animals were presented for sale. Apart from locals, buyers came from the Midlands and from Northern Ireland. The top price of €1,980 was given for an in-calf heifer bred by Seamus Barry, Boyle, Co Roscommon while the show champion, a maiden heifer bred by Phil Sheedy sold for €1,900. The top priced weanling heifer was bred by Tom Fox, Glasson, Athlone and she made €1,820.
