Preparations are well under way for the 2026 Cork Holstein Friesian Club Herds Competition, sponsored by Dairygold. Launched recently, the club is hoping for another year of strong participation and high standards across all herds.

The competition will once again include both spring and autumn sections, with classes for herds under and over 80 cows. There is a wide range of awards to recognise excellence in production, conformation, herd performance and individual animal categories.

This year will also see a new section added to the competition, top EBI herds, a dedicated, non-inspection category for herds not entered in the main competition.

This category will be judged based on 2025 year-end Co-op performance reports, with a focus on EBI and milk solids performance.

A full range of awards will be presented, including top EBI herds, production efficiency traits and individual achievements.

The club is strongly encouraging both returning participants and new entrants to take part, with special recognition awarded to top new entrants in each section.

It is understood judging of the competition will take place in June, with the winners in the various categories going forward to compete in the National Herds Competition.
