Glebefarm North Country Cheviots set to go online

The highly anticipated Glebefarm North Country Cheviot Tuptastic ram sale will take place on MartEye next week in association with Harrison and Hetherington.

Alfie and Elaine Shaw set up the Glebefarm flock almost 10 years ago with purchases from the Allanshaws and Wardshill flocks. The Glebefarm Cheviot flock has now grown to 85 breeding ewes plus replacements which are all reared on farm.

The duo has always aimed to breed a stylish and correct ewe, that is hardy with a strong mothering ability, as all the ewes lamb outdoors.

The ewes run on a mixed grazing system alongside 100 head of pedigree cattle, so grass can be tight at times on the farm, but Alfie and Elaine have found that the easy fleshing traits of the Cheviots really pay off on their farm system.

The Cheviot ewes have also proven to be very productive on this system and scan between 175% to 180% annually, with very low mortality rates.

This is the strongest team of rams that has been put forward for sale to date by the flock and the sale will consist of the cream of the 2023 crop, 12 stand-out North Country Cheviot two-shear rams. All sired by the Shaws’ highly admired stock ram Allanshaws Crystal.

The rams’ dams are sired by Allanshaws Vantastic, a ram that needs no introduction in these pages having bred impeccably well in the Glebefarm flock. Vantastic sired Glebefarm Class Act, that was sold in a private deal to the Allanshaws flock, where he went on to sire Allanshaws Jen the 2024 Royal Highland Show champion and Allanshaws Eye Candy that sold at a record price for 15,000gns at the 2024 Lockerbie sale.

All rams are eligible for immediate export to the UK and the Republic of Ireland. The sale takes place from 9 to 11 August. Rams will be available to view on 8 August and 9 August, 2-8pm at Glebefarm, 33 Tobermesson Road, Moy, Co Tyrone.
