The show day has always been one of the highlights of the annual Ballinmore festival, held in the middle of August each year, and today was no different as large crowds gathered to the Creamer family’s field on the outskirts of Ballinamore, Co Leitrim.

Overall champion

Superme champion of the show was awarded to the Hynes family, Baylin, Athlone, Co Roscommon. Their stylish January 2018-born bull calf was also put forward earlier in the day for the overall champion of the commercial section. He was sired by TVR and out of a Charolais cross dam bred by LGL.

Reserve overall champion went to Stanley Richardson from Newtowngore, Co Leitrim, for his March 2018-born Limousin bull calf, Newtown Newman. Newman is sired by Netherhall Jackpot and out of a Wilodge Cerberus-bred dam.

Charolais

Ardabrone Molly ET took the champion Charolais trophy on the day. Bred by Karl Kelly, Ardabrood, Dromard, Co Sligo, this powerful heifer is sired by Inverlochy Ferdie and out of a Uranus-bred dam. Karl also had the reserve Charolais champion with his September-born heifer.

Simmental

Gerry Lenehan, Rathlee, Easkey, Co Sligo, was award the Simmetal champion for his September-born Glebefarm Tyson son, Rathlee Jaden. Paddy and Elaine Hennelly, Creggconnell, Rosses Point, Co Sligo, took home the reserve champion rosettes.

Angus

In what was a very competitive section, overall Angus champion went to Tom Reynolds, Bornacoola, Co Leitrim, for his January-born bull calf.

Aberdeen Angus champion and reserve overall champion Angus went to Patrick Beirne, Drumbeera, Gorvagh, Co Leitrim.

Hereford champion was award to a familiar competitor in the Hereford show circuit, Coote Geeln, Dromad Co Leitrim

The Flatley brothers from Glann, Kilkelly, Co Mayo, came out on top in the Shorthorn section.

Reserve commercial champion went to Damien McGowan, Cloone, Co Leitrim, for his March 2018-born Belgium Blue-bred heifer.
