The McGivern family of Carrigtwohill, Cork, were out in front at Bandon show when their heifer Jaffacake went all the way to the end to claim the supreme interbreed champion on the day. This November born heifer was awarded first prize in the Bandon Co-op super commercial young heifer class before Jim and Betty Stanley eventually tapped her out as overall champion of the show.

This Charolais sired heifer is no stranger to the show ring having being placed reserve overall champion at Allams in December before the McGivern family paid the top price on the day for her at £5,600. This exceptional heifer is likely to be a serious contender for many major commercial championships throughout the summer.
Reserve supreme champion

Claiming the reserve supreme championship was the day’s Simmental champion Quitrent Giselle from William Gubbins. This young heifer by Delfur Decider has already knocked up a number of championships this summer including Tralee and Newmarket-on-Fergus.
Continuing in the Simmental ring was Tony O’Leary’s September born Seaview Hendrix. This was the young bulls first day out and was also sired by the Delfur Decider.
Herefords
The Herefords saw the biggest show of cattle on the day with close to 40 forward. Out on top of the large entry was John Appelbe with his three-year-old stock bull Solpoll 1 Lawman.

This Pammure Henry sired bull comes off the back of claiming the overall male national title at Tullamore last year.
Judge Pat Sheedy awarded the reserve championship to Kilsunny Lass Matilda from Trevor Dudley. This November 2015 born heifer is out of stock bull Glaslough Judge, who was shown successfully last year.
Angus
In the Angus ring Albert De’ Cogan started his summer showing Angus campaign, and a good start was claiming the overall championship with Mogeely Miylo.

This three-year-old claimed a number of top prizes on the show circuit last year and this year turned a number of heads when she was exhibited with her bull calf at foot. Sired by three time all-Ireland champion Rosemead Karona, her September bull calf also claimed the overall Angus calf championship on the day and was sired by wall Royal Leo.
Reserve championship honours in this ring went to John O’Brien for his heifer Clooncolligan Minnie. This Drumsnaharry Harry sired heifer was purchased at the Elite Angus sale in Carrick-on Shannon last December for €5,100.
Parthenaise

Michael Dullea continued his run from Tralee show, claiming both the overall and reserve championship in the Parthenaise ring at both shows. Securing the overall this time around was Deelish legend, a maternal half-brother to successful show bull last year Deelsih Kaboom. Securing the reserve spot was Deelish Lucious, a June 2016 born heifer by Deelish Harry.
Charolais
Bobby O’Connell secured two overall championship at Bandon show.

The first came in the Charolais ring with his October 2016 born bull calf Ballybrown Milo. Sired by Nippur, Milo secured the male championship before being eventually tapped out as overall. Bobby’s second championship came in the Limousin ring where Roundhil Iodine continued her winning ways from last year.

This Elite Forever Brill sired first calver was shown with her young calf at foot.
Belgian Blues
The O’Donovan family completed a double in the Blue ring claiming both the champion and reserve rosettes. Top of the line was the November 2015 born bull Jackson.

This Imperial sired bull was shown with great success last year, including picking up the championship at Clonaslee. Just behind picking up the reserve was Karley. This heifer was sired by VDC and was already awarded overall champion in Tralee, after securing 14 red rosettes in 2016.
Holstein
The protein cow championship was the big one in the dairy ring, and with it came a big entry. Taking the championship was Ricky Barrett with Laurelelm Jerrick Daffodil. This four-year-old was shown after calving in September while still giving 38 litres. Classified VG88, daffodil is sired by Gillette Jerrick.
