Three of the largest continental cattle breeds in the country will host their National Shows at this year’s FBD National Livestock Show in Tullamore.

One of them will be the Limousin, which will get judging underway at 9.30am in ring 12, with two young handlers classes, highlighting the talent of their future breeders. This will be followed by the male classes, culminating in the crowning of the male champion.

The excitement will continue with the female classes, ending with the grand finale where the supreme champion will be crowned. Last year, Ben and Eddie Lynch’s magnificent Leopard daughter, Ernevalley Temptress, claimed this coveted title.

The society is also sponsoring the highly competitive commercial calf classes, featuring separate sections for Limousin cross heifer calves and Limousin cross bull calves.

Society PRO Ann Curtin said: “We invite everyone to join us in Tullamore for what promises to be an unforgettable day celebrating the excellence of the Limousin breed. We extend thanks to all the generous sponsors who support the classes and we encourage everyone to support their businesses.

“We are thrilled by the number of entries received across all classes, promising a fantastic display of the very best of the Limousin breed.”

Charolais

This year will see the Irish Charolais Cattle Society return to the FBD National Livestock Show in Tullamore for its 29th National Charolais Show.

A few years ago the society moved its National Show to Tullamore, and has since gone from strength to strength, with two packed ringsides bustling with activity all day. The National Charolais Show always provides a showcase of top quality cattle and this year will be no different.

With 23 classes, six championships and over 150 entries, this year’s show promises to be a spectacular day for both exhibitors and spectators alike. Judging will commence at 10am in rings 10 and 11, split into males and females.

Barbara Jay-Downey, secretary of the Irish Charolais Cattle Society said: “On behalf of the society, I would like to sincerely thank all our show sponsors, without their support we would not be able to run such an event.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to our 29th National Show, which promises to be a wonderful day.”

National Simmental Show

Also hosting its 29th National Show in conjunction with the FBD National Livestock Show in Tullamore will be the Simmental breed. In what has become the highlight of the show season for Simmental exhibitors, winning a rosette is a great achievement in what is a very competitive environment. This year again promises more high-class competition with 106 Simmental animals entered, all striving for top honors in the 15 classes which include 11 National titles.

The privilege of getting proceedings underway at 10.30am will fall to the up-and-coming young members of the Society, who will be taking part in two stock handling classes.

These classes demonstrate the passion and commitment these young enthusiasts have for the breed, ensuring the art of showing is in safe hands into the future.

Tasked with judging this year’s show will be Hazel McNee from the Finlarg herd based in Tealing, Dundee, Scotland. Hazel is no stranger to the judging arena, having as recently as October 2023 judged the renowned Stirling bull sales in Scotland.
